The Epworth United Methodist Men use fun and fellowship
to spread the gospel through our community. Not burdened by regular,
tiresome meetings, the fellowship of men gathers three or four times
each year, usually to plan an exciting event or outing to support
programs at the church.
And these program usually involve food!!!
No one follows Roberts Rules of Order; they just do what
they can to have fun and fellowship of men, and to support Epworth
United Methodist Church.
An example of the fun which the men have is the traditional
Epworth Barbeque, held in October. The event uses a contraption
that has come to be identified with Epworth UMC: the huge alligator
barbeque pit, which is parked on McLendon and used to cook the meat.
Long-time member, J.C. Manus usually starts the fire
Friday afternoon, and several men gather to cook over 400 pounds
of pork shoulder throughout the weekend.
The event is held in conjunction with the United Methodist
Women's flea market and bazaar on Saturday.
The men also participate in Candler Park Festival.
Any profits made from these activities are given to the
church. This year, the money is supporting the building renovation.
Since the men pride themselves on not being bound
by a regular meeting schedule, anyone interested in joining the
group - Epworth UMC member or not - should contact the church office.
Leave a message for the United Methodist Church men, and someone
will fill you in on all the details.
